Connect PayGate to your shop

Take payments through your own PayGate account on your ShopEazy shop and at your till. Where to find your keys, what to paste, and what the errors mean.

PayGate is now part of Payfast. If you still have a PayGate account, it connects to ShopEazy, so shoppers can pay on your shop and by Scan to pay at your till. Starting fresh? Connect Payfast instead.

ShopEazy never holds your money. Shoppers pay PayGate, and PayGate pays you out on the terms you have with them. You pay PayGate's fees on your own account, and ShopEazy's platform fee per online sale depends on your plan.

Before you start

  • A PayGate account. Your PayGate ID and Encryption key from PayWeb 3.
  • Owner or admin access to your ShopEazy business. Other team members can't connect or remove a payment provider.
  • Your email inbox. Connecting a provider asks you to confirm it's you with a 6-digit code we email you.

What your shoppers can pay with: Cards and EFT.

Connect PayGate

  1. In ShopEazy, click Settings in the sidebar, then Payments. You can also press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) and search for "Payments".
  2. Under Ways to pay, find Card via PayGate and click Connect. Already have a provider connected? Click Add next to Add a way to pay and pick PayGate.
  3. Follow the steps in the drawer, below.
  4. Click Connect PayGate and enter the code we email you.

Step 1: Open PayWeb settings in PayGate

  1. Sign in to PayGate and go to Configuration → PayWeb 3.
  2. Copy your PayGate ID (a long number) and your encryption key. Don't use a DPO Pay company token: it isn't the same thing.

Step 2: Paste them here

  • PayGate ID: a number, for example 10011072130.
  • Encryption key

When it works, PayGate shows under Ways to pay with an On badge, and your shop starts taking payments through it.

Check that it worked

ShopEazy checks your ID and key with PayGate when you connect.

Click Manage next to PayGate on the Payments page to see Live at checkout, your Payments · 30 days and Recent payments.

If something goes wrong

"Your PayGate ID is a number, e.g. 10011072130." Paste only the number from PayWeb 3.

"PayGate rejected that ID and key. Copy both again from PayGate." Copy both values again from Configuration → PayWeb 3.

PayGate shows "Not in use" Your shop charges through one card provider at a time. If another provider was connected first, checkout keeps using it. Disconnect that one to switch to PayGate.

For problems shoppers see at checkout, see Fix payment provider and checkout problems.

Good to know

Your secret keys are encrypted when you save them, and ShopEazy never shows them again.

To disconnect, open PayGate from Settings → Payments and click Disconnect. We ask you to confirm, then forget your keys. If PayGate was the one at checkout and another provider is connected, checkout switches to it. Otherwise shoppers can't pay by card until you connect one again, so connect the new one first if you're switching.
