Marketing Tools
Build an audience from your customers
Pick a ready-made group of your customers, like repeat buyers or people who've gone quiet, and copy their details or download them as a spreadsheet. Part of Marketing Plus.
Audiences sort your customers into ready-made groups, such as people who bought once and never came back. You can copy their email addresses or numbers, download the list, or send the group an email. Audiences come with Growth and Scale.
Before you start
- Growth or Scale. On Starter, open the menu under your name, go to Business → Plan & billing, click Change plan and pick Growth. You pay the difference for the rest of this billing period straight away. A Starter business that already has Marketing Plus keeps it.
- Customers in your list. Audiences are built from the people in Customers: everyone who has ordered from your store, plus anyone you've added yourself.
Open your audiences
- Click Grow → Marketing in the sidebar.
- Under Campaigns, click Audiences.
Each audience shows how many people are in it right now. Click one to see who's in it.
The audiences
- Everyone: every customer on your list.
- Best customers: your top 20 spenders.
- Repeat buyers: people who have ordered more than once.
- Bought once: people with exactly one order.
- Gone quiet: people who have ordered before, but not in the last 90 days.
- New this month: people who have ordered in the last 30 days.
- Never bought: people on your list who have never placed an order, such as customers you added by hand.
Customers you've archived are never included in any audience.
Marketing consent
The Only people who agreed to marketing switch is on by default, and we recommend keeping it on. Someone who bought from you hasn't automatically agreed to receive marketing. South Africa's POPIA treats the two separately.
With the switch on, the page tells you how many people were left out because they never agreed.
Customers agree to marketing in three ways:
- By ticking "Email me deals and updates from this store." at checkout.
- By ticking the same box in their customer account on your shop.
- By you ticking Customer agreed to receive marketing when you add or edit a customer. Only do this when the customer really has agreed.
Anyone who clicks the unsubscribe link in one of your marketing emails is switched off automatically. On a customer's page in Customers, Marketing shows Opted in or Not opted in.
Use an audience
- Copy emails (the button shows the count, for example Copy 12 emails) copies every email address in the audience, separated by commas.
- Copy numbers copies every phone number the same way.
- Download CSV downloads a spreadsheet with each person's name, email, phone, number of orders, total spent and last order date.
The list on screen shows the first 500 people. The CSV has everyone.
To email an audience from ShopEazy, see Send an email to your customers.
If something goes wrong
The Audiences tool shows a lock and "Comes with Growth". Your plan doesn't include it. Upgrade under Business → Plan & billing.
"Nobody is in this list yet" No customers match that audience. If the consent switch is on, try switching it off to see who's in the group. Only contact those people if they've agreed to marketing.
The copy buttons are greyed out. Nobody in the audience left an email address (or phone number), so there's nothing to copy.
