Get your shop found on Google

How Google finds your ShopEazy shop, what has to be true before it's listed, and the one setting that controls it. There's nothing to install.

schedule4 min read

You don't need to install anything or connect a Google account for your shop to be found. Every ShopEazy shop has its own sitemap, and ShopEazy tells Google about it for you through the public store directory at shopeazy.co/stores.

Google decides when to visit and what to show, so no one can promise a date or a ranking. What you can do is make sure nothing is stopping it.

How Google finds your shop

  • Your shop's own sitemap. Your storefront publishes a list of its pages at /sitemap.xml, for example yourshop.shopeazy.co/sitemap.xml. It includes your home page, your products, services, events and tours, your published policy pages, your published pages (like your About page), and any category that has something in it. It updates by itself when you add or change items.
  • The ShopEazy directory. Listed shops appear on shopeazy.co/stores, with a link to each one. ShopEazy also gives Google a list of every listed shop's sitemap.

Your cart, checkout and search results pages are kept out of Google on purpose. They're not useful as search results.

What has to be true before you're listed

Your shop appears in the directory, and in the list ShopEazy gives Google, only when all of these are true:

  • Your online storefront is on. Check under Settings → Channels.
  • You have at least one item for sale. Hidden items don't count. An empty shop is left out until you add something, by design.
  • You're on a paid plan. Shops on a free trial aren't listed yet. Yours joins the directory as soon as you subscribe. If a payment fails, your shop drops out until it's settled.
  • You have something for sale. At least one product, service, event or tour is live in your shop.
  • Your online storefront is switched on. You'll find it under Settings → Channels.
  • The directory listing is on. It's on unless you've switched it off (see below).

Turn the directory listing on or off

  1. In the sidebar, click Settings, then Channels.
  2. Next to Online storefront, click Manage storefront.
  3. Under Getting found, use the List my shop in the ShopEazy directory switch.

When you switch it on, you'll see "Your shop will appear in the directory." When you switch it off, you'll see "Your shop is hidden from the directory."

Switching the listing off only stops ShopEazy advertising your shop. Your shop stays open, and anyone with your address can still reach it. To close your shop to visitors, turn the Online storefront channel off instead.

If you use your own domain

Once your own domain is live, your shop's pages and sitemap use that address. It still appears in the shopeazy.co/stores directory with a link, but ShopEazy can't hand its sitemap to Google for you, because only the owner of a domain can do that.

To help Google find it faster, add your domain to Google Search Console yourself and submit https://yourdomain/sitemap.xml.

Helping Google show you well

  • Add photos and a clear description to every item. These appear on your pages and in search results.
  • Write your own search title and description for important items. See Control how your items look on Google and social media.
  • Publish your policy pages. Published policies are added to your sitemap.
  • Share your link. Links from your social pages, WhatsApp status and email signature help people and search engines find you.

If something goes wrong

My shop isn't on shopeazy.co/stores. Go through the list under "What has to be true before you're listed". The most common reasons are having nothing on your shop yet (check for the banner on Products), or the storefront channel being off.

I switched the listing off but my shop still shows on Google. The switch only affects the ShopEazy directory. Your shop is still open, and Google may keep pages it has already found until it next visits. To take your shop offline, turn off the Online storefront channel.

The switch flips back and shows an error. Only the business owner or an admin can change this setting. Ask them to make the change. If you are the owner, try again, and email support@shopeazy.co if it keeps happening.

My shop is new and not on Google yet. That's normal. Google visits on its own schedule. Check that your shop meets everything in the list above, and keep sharing your link.
