Hide, archive or delete a product
Control what customers can see and buy. Learn the difference between On my shop, Hidden and Archived, what deleting does, and how to take a whole section of your shop offline.
Every product is either on your shop, hidden or archived. Only products marked On my shop appear on your storefront. You can hide a product for a while, retire it for good, or take a whole section of your shop offline without losing anything.
On my shop, Hidden or Archived
- On my shop: on your storefront and for sale. New products start here.
- Hidden: only you can see it. Use it while you're still setting a product up. Products you import from a file start hidden.
- Archived: hidden and kept out of the way. Use it for products you've stopped selling but want to keep, with their history.
A hidden or archived product is gone from your storefront completely. Its page, search results, category pages and your shop's sitemap all drop it, and nobody can buy it, even with a saved link.
When any products are hidden, a banner at the top of Products says how many. Click Show all to put them all on your shop at once.
Show or hide a product
From the product's page
- Click Catalogue → Products in the sidebar and open the product.
- In the Your shop box, pick Show on my shop or Don't show.
- Click Save changes.
It only changes when you save, together with everything else on the page. To bring back an archived product, pick either option and save.
From the product list
- Click Catalogue → Products in the sidebar.
- Click the ⋯ button at the end of a product's row.
- Choose Show on my shop, Hide from my shop or Archive.
This takes effect straight away.
Change several at once
Tick the boxes beside the products you want, then click Show on shop, Hide or Archive in the bar that appears. To find archived products later, set the filter to Archived.
Delete a product
Deleting removes the product from your storefront and your catalogue for good. Past orders keep their record of what was sold.
- On the product's page, click Delete product at the bottom of the side column, then confirm with Delete product.
- On the product list, tick the products and click Delete, then confirm.
The Delete option in a row's ⋯ menu deletes the product straight away, without asking. If you might want the product back, choose Archive instead.
Categories and visibility
Categories decide where a product is filed, not whether it's shown. A product on your shop with no category is still on your storefront.
If you delete a category under Catalogue → Categories, its products stay live. They're just no longer filed there. Any categories inside it move up to the top level.
Take a whole section of your shop offline
To stop selling all your physical products at once, for example over a holiday:
- Click Settings in the sidebar, then What you sell.
- Switch off Physical products.
- Confirm with Turn off and archive.
Everything in that section comes off your storefront: product pages, search, feeds and checkout. Nothing is deleted. Switch it back on to bring it all back, with each product's own status as it was. The same switch exists for Services, Events and Tours.
Your plan's product limit
Every product counts towards your plan's limit, whether it's on your shop, hidden or archived. Only deleting a product frees up room.
- Starter: 30 products
- Growth: 150 products
- Scale: 1,000 products
The limit is counted across all the stores in your business, and includes services, events and tours. When you reach it, the New product button is greyed out. You can still edit and sell everything you already have.
Check that it worked
Open your storefront in a private browser window and search for the product. A hidden or archived product won't appear. On Products, the counter above the list shows how many products are on your shop.
If something goes wrong
"You've used all" your plan's products. "Upgrade to add more." You're at your plan's limit. Delete products you no longer need, or upgrade: open the menu under your name, choose Business, then Plan & billing.
"You have" more products than your plan includes. Your catalogue is above your current plan's limit, which can happen after a downgrade. Everything you have keeps selling and you can still edit it, but you can't add new products until you're under the limit or upgrade.
A product I set to show still isn't on my storefront. Check that you clicked Save changes after picking Show on my shop. Then check that Physical products is switched on under Settings → What you sell.
I deleted a product by mistake. A deleted product can't be restored. Create it again with New product. Past orders still show what was sold.
