Add sizes, colours and other variants
Sell one product in different sizes, colours or styles, each with its own price, stock and SKU. Set it all up on the product's page in a few minutes.
Variants let one product page sell several versions of the same thing, like a T-shirt in three sizes and two colours. Each version has its own price, stock and SKU, and customers choose the one they want on your storefront.
How variants work
You add up to three options (for example Size, Colour and Material) and list the values for each (Small, Medium, Large). ShopEazy then makes one version for every combination. Two sizes in three colours gives you six versions to sell.
Each version is something a customer can actually buy, so each one gets:
- Price: leave it empty and the version sells at the product's main Price.
- Stock: how many of that exact version you have.
- SKU: optional, for your own records.
- Photo: chosen from the product's own images.
Add variants to a product
- Click Catalogue → Products in the sidebar, then open the product (or click New product).
- Under Pricing, set the Price. This is the price every version uses unless you give it its own.
- If you want photos per version, add them under Images first.
- Scroll to Variants and click Add options.
- Type the option's name, for example Size.
- Under Values, type a value and press Enter. Repeat for each one.
- To add a second or third option, click Add another option. The button disappears once you have three.
- The table below now lists every version. Fill in Price, Stock and SKU for each row, and click the photo square to pick an image.
- Click Save changes (or Create product for a new one).
Add all your options before you fill in the table. Adding a new option later rebuilds every version, and their prices, stock and SKUs start again from empty.
Set the same price or stock on every version
Above the table there are two small boxes, Price and Stock. Type a number in one or both and click Apply to all. This is quicker than filling in a long list by hand, and you can still change single rows afterwards.
Typing values with spaces
A space finishes the value you're typing, so typing Extra Large gives you two values, Extra and Large. Either use a single word (XL), or paste the value followed by a comma (for example Extra Large,) and it goes in as one.
Values that differ only in capitals or punctuation count as the same value, so you can't have both 1.5L and 15L on one option.
How stock works with variants
When a product has variants, stock lives on each version. The Stock on hand box in the Inventory card isn't used for that product. Set stock in the variants table instead.
The switches in the Inventory card still apply to the whole product:
- Track quantity off means none of the versions count stock, and they never sell out.
- Keep selling when out of stock on means every version can still be bought at zero.
When a version sells out, customers see it crossed out with Sold out on your storefront, and they can't add it to their cart. The other versions keep selling.
Changing or removing variants
- To remove a value, click the cross on it under Values. Every version with that value is removed from the table.
- To remove a whole option, click the bin icon beside its name.
- If you remove a value and type it again, it comes back as a new version with zero stock and no price or SKU of its own.
Nothing changes on your storefront until you click Save changes. Past orders keep the version the customer bought.
Check that it worked
Open the product on your storefront. You should see a button for each value under each option name. Pick a combination and the price updates to that version's price. On Catalogue → Inventory, each version appears as its own line.
If something goes wrong
The photo square is greyed out. You haven't added any images to the product yet. Upload them under Images, then pick one per version.
My storefront doesn't switch photos when a customer picks a version. The photo you choose is saved with the version, but your storefront doesn't swap the main image per version yet. Customers see the product's main images for every version.
All my variant prices and stock disappeared. You probably added a new option after filling in the table. Set the prices and stock again, then save. If you haven't saved yet, leave the page without saving to keep what you had.
A version shows Sold out but I have stock. Check that version's Stock in the variants table, not Stock on hand in the Inventory card.
